Happy Memorial Day to all of those in the US.  No matter where you are or what country you live in, take a moment today to remember all of those who have fought and died to keep your country safe.

Ok, on to this week's challenge! This week at Happileigh Scrappin we want to see LOTS of embellishments! Buttons, bows, brads, charms, ribbons, lace.....you name it!  

I used a new image from Leigh called Mushroom House.  It was colored with Copics, then Stickles were added to give some sparkle.  The background was created by using the Copics to add dots.  The ribbon is from Michaels.  Flower on the bottom left is from Prima.  The flower on the upper right was created by placing numerous pearls in a circle around a pink gem.  The "home sweet home" sentiment is from 7 Gypsies.

Guylou is having a new challenge......Brings May Flowers!  (The first part of that saying was the previous challenge.)  It's a color challenge with a twist.  You must use these colors:

I used the fabulous Jessica.  Isn't she great?  I printed out the umbrella twice and popped it up to create some dimension.  Everything was colored with Copics, including the dot background I created. Roses are from Michaels, paper flowers with Stickles are form Hero Arts and the pink flower with the pearl is a Prima flower.

Betty at the Beach

A little while ago I was playing around with my Paint.net program and I created this scene using a Simply Betty stamp and a Copic Marker Scrapbooking wave stamp.

I had SUCH a fun time with this!  Betty and the ocean were colored using Copic markers.  To make the beach, I colored it using a beige Copic, then covered it with Antique Linen Distress Stickles.  I was extremely pleased how sand-like it came out!  I expected the Stickles to take DAYS to dry since they were so thick...but they were dry in just a couple of hours!  The sentiment is from Tlc Creations. The sun charm is from my jewelry making stash.

This week at CDAC they have the cutest freebie over at the Holiday/Special Occasions Challenge.  It's from Zlatoena Designs and is just adorable.

I just love bunnies, and he's so cute, peeking out from behind all those presents!!  I colored him using Copics.  Of course, I had to get my new sewing thread out and have some stitching fun with all three design papers!

Puppy!!!

A few months ago I got this adorable puppy image from Tiddly Inks.  It looks just like my furbaby!  I've been just waiting for a chance to use it.  When I saw that TI's newest challenge is Manly Men I knew it was the perfect time to use it!

Isn't it cute?  I colored her using colored pencils and Gamsol.  The craft cardstock was embossed using a Tim Holtz embossing folder. Ribbon is from Michaels.  I made the buttons using my EK Success button maker.

Patience is a Virtue

Yesterday I did a 13 hour crop at my local Archiver's.  It was the first time I've done a crop without my mom.  I missed her, but I had a blast!  I met some really nice ladies, and had a great time chatting.

Here's one of the first cards I created.

I created this card using a freebie from The Digi Street. Isn't it adorable? I used Copics to color the Digi Street image, and Glaze pens to color the little birdie stamp.  I used the birdie stamp and Versamark ink to create a watermark on the background cardstock.  I outlined the clouds using Stickles. The circles were created using die cuts from Archiver's. The bird on the cloud and the sentiment are popped up using pop dots.

Fight Like a Girl

It's so funny, that phrase used to mean that you were weak.  Girls can't hit. Girls can't punch. Girls have no power. Girls can't fight.  Well....bull!  Women are strong and we fight every day.  I love the chorus to Bomshel's Fight Like a Girl:

"Hold your head high, don't ever let 'em define the light in your eyes. Love yourself, give them Hell. You can take on this world. You just stand and be strong and then fight like a girl."

I think that pretty much says it all, doesn't it.

This phrase in particular has come to be kind of a motto for the fight against breast cancer.  This is one of my special causes.  No, I don't really know anyone that's gone through it.  I was born in October, which you may or may not know is Breast Cancer Month.  I kind of just adopted that as one of my causes.  I donate to the Susan G. Koman for the Cure Foundation every year.  I participate in all kinds of fundraisers.  When I made jewelry, I used to make special Breast Cancer bracelets and donated the proceeds.  It's pretty much been my go-to cause.  (For more information on Susan G.  I decided to use one of the tickets that Femke so generously provided as a freebie through the Tiddly Inks Paper Craft Planet Group and the card kind of just built itself from there.  I used one of The Greeting Farm's stamps, Rockabilly, and colored her with Copics. Her outfit and shoes were paper pieced, my very first try at that technique.  Here's a close-up:

The Breast Cancer Awareness charms on the corners are left over from my jewelry-making days.

Happy Everything!

Well, it's challenge time over at Happileigh Scrappin'.  Yay!!!  =D  This week Leigh came up with a great challenge: Special Folds.  That means we want to see anything except the traditional one-fold card.  Otherwise, it's wide open.  It could be a gate-fold, a tri-fold, an easel card....or not a card at all.  What about a matchbox or a carton?  The possibilities are endless!

I decided to try a new fold called a Spring Card.  I found the tutorial over at Split Coast Stampers.

I love this card because it folds flat, but when you pull it out of the envelope it pops up.  How fun, right? I used Leigh's Happy Everything Vase, which can be found here in the floral section of her store.  I also used some flowers from her Tea Party set.  The flowers were all colored using Spica Markers, Glaze and Souffle pens.  Paper is from Prima's Sasha Collection.  Papers and card folds edged with pink chalk ink.  The flowers on the bottom corners were made using a Cuttlebug Quilled Rose/Carnation Kit.  I was really excited how they turned out...here's a close up.

It took a couple of tries for me to figure out how the kit works, but I'm happy with the results. =D I added a yellow gem to the center of the flower, and some stickles to all leaves.

Asian Inspiration

A couple of months ago I bought a fan die for my Big Shot.  Ever since then, I've been wanting to do an Asian inspired card.  Then, I found this fabulous image over at Tiddly Inks named Chi, which I thought was absolutely perfect for that style.  Lastly, I got some Asian style outline stickers at last weekend's Rubber Stamp and Scrapbooking Expo....and I was set!

The inside:

The image on the front of the card is the Chi image, colored with Copics.  This is the first time I've really tried highlighting with black hair, and I'm really happy with out it turned out!  (I used C0, C2 and 100.)  I know a lot of people don't like to use greys for the highlights...but I like the result.  =D  The coins and fan outlines are the stickers, and the inside of the fans were colored with Souffle pens.  The Chinese characters on the inside of the card are from Designed 2 Delight and mean happiness.  I wrote "happiness" underneath so anyone who picks up the card will immediately know what it means.  I used origami paper for the fan. (Thanks for the idea, Stef!!)

I am just stoked at how this turned out....but I still have a ton of embellishments that I planned on using but just didn't fit with this card.  So, don't be surprised if you see a few more of this style over the next couple of months!

Rock and Roll!!

Hey folks!  Tiddly Inks is having a new challenge based on an inspiration photo.  Here's the photo:

Pretty, huh?  I like those colors....very rainbow-y. LOL

The image for my card is Tiddly Ink's Rocknrolla.  Isn't she adorable?  I love roller skates (and watching the roller derby).  I can totally see her racing around the rink, knocking down the opposing team....and what goes with roller derby more than Rock and Roll music?  Nothing!  =D  It's hard to see, but "Rock and Roll" is written on the guitar.  I had a lot of fun with this card once I got going.  I would have used more colors from the inspiration photo, but apparently the printer I used when printing my challenge list was running out of some colors.  On my printout the bottom of the shower curtain looked like brick red instead of purple.  Oops!

Girls Day Out

Last Saturday my mom and I went to the Rubber Stamping & Scrapbooking Expo at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds.  Oh, the fun we had!  So many great deals!  Plus, we got to see a lot of stuff that we don't usually see since most of the Expo people are from other states.  Over the next few weeks I'm sure you're going to be seeing some of the stuff I got.

One of my most interesting finds is the Iris Folding Stamp from Stamp N Plus Scrap N.  The Iris Folding Stamp is a particular type of stamp, not name of the stamp I bought.  (Actually, they don't really have names.  I looked at the store and the stamp I bought is F-IR059.)  All of the stamps have numerous lines running through them.  You stamp it onto a piece of paper, and cut the stamp out using a craft knife.  Then, using removable tape, you tape the paper you cut out over the hole in your card, using it as a type of guide/mask for the next step.  You tape numerous tiny pieces of folded paper following the lines on the mask.  When you have completely covered the hole, you remove the mask from the front and voila!  You have an awesome image created out of many little pieces of paper.

Yes, I know....I'm HORRIBLE at describing this.  It's kind of hard to describe...but if you saw the process I promise it would make sense! LOL  Here's my card:

See all the lines from the folded pieces of paper?  Because I used a shiny paper for the dress, it was REALLY hard to take a picture.  The actual colors of the card...background is a pale purple.  The Stickles outline is bright red. The frame is a denim blue, and the red dress is a bright, shiny red (like metallic wrapping paper).  I wish I had been able to get a better picture, because it really makes the card look great.  

I just couldn't wait to use this stamp!  It was a lot of fun.  Next time, I'm definitely using different colors.  I will also probably try it without a shiny paper....and we'll see if the pictures turn out better.  =D

Pearls and Lace

Well, I just don't believe it.  It's only Tuesday night....and I have made the Anita card for this week's challenge!!  I'm WAY ahead of the deadline this time!  (I hope it makes up for missing last week's AWESOME sketch that I totally hope to use some day, but I just didn't have time last week. *sniff*)  I know it's pretty simple...but I wanted it to be.  I didn't want to add anything to distract from the image or the background, you know?  I see all these lovely creations with a million embellies but nothing is overshadowed....and I just can't do that yet.  Still trying to get comfortable with them. LOL

I'm also using this for a Polka Doodles challenge that I thought was kind of interesting.  It's a menu choice, where you can pick only one option from each category.  The menu is:

Color: Pink or Turquoise

Image: Fairy or Butterfly

Embellishment 1: Ribbon or Lace

Embellishment 2: Pearls or Gems

I picked Turquoise, Fairy, Lace and Pearls.

Anyway, here's my card!

I used one of my favorite Anita fairies, as well as one of her sentiments.  The lace with pearls I got at Michael's.  Mini pearls are from Recollections.  The ticket stamp around the sentiment is from Imaginisce.  I stamped it, then colored over it with a turquoise Spica glitter marker, then outlined it with a black ballpoint pen. Fairy colored with Copics and crystal Stickles. Papers from the Sasha collection and Me and My Big Ideas.

A Stitch in Time...

Happi Monday, y'all!  It's time for this week's Happileigh Scrappin' challenge.  This week, I got to pick the challenge.  I decided to go with "Stitching".  Use hand stitches, machine stitches, or faux stitches...it's all up to you! So, grab a needle (or a pen) and sew up some fun!

I used Leigh's Bee Bounty for my card.  I just love that cute little bee!!  I hand stitched around all of the design papers.  I decided to use a different kind of stitch of each paper.  It was fun figuring out how to make them turn out right. Some day I hope to have a sewing machine so I don't have to do it all by hand, but it was a peaceful way to pass the time. =)

Inspire

Well, I posted this a couple of days ago....and then Blogger went crazy.  (Not my fault, I swear!!)  Now, my post has disappeared.  I don't really remember everything I said...a lot about not being really sure what Steampunk is but I've been hearing about it a lot and really wanted to give it a shot.  Anyway, here's the card I posted.

Basically, I used lots of Tim Holtz.  Distress inks, embellishments, embossing folders.  If you're really interested, let me know and I will give you a list of the components.  Main thing is the image is from Tiddly Inks.  Love it!

I Love Puzzles!

Tiddly Inks is have a new kind of challenge....a puzzle challenge!  I do love puzzles!  =)  It's a two part challenge.... 

First!  You make any kind of project with any Tiddly Inks image and post it HERE before 9pm CST.  (If you're reading this right after I post you still have an hour and a half so hurry up!)  

Second! After 9pm, you go back and do a blog hop of all the entries.  I've seen the kinds of projects Tiddly Inkers post and they are awesome so I know this is going to be a blast!

Happi Monday, y'all!!  You know what that means....time for another Happileigh Scrappin' Challenge.  Woot!  This week was Barb's turn to host. Unfortunately Barb had to leave the DT last week, but we decided to keep her challenge in honor of her time with us. The challenge is: Emerald Birthday.  If you were not aware, the Emerald is May's birthstone.  So, what we'd like to see is either a card with emerald being the main color or a birthday card.  If you make a birthday card with the main color being emerald...you get entered into the challenge twice!  How cool is that?

Here's the card I made for the challenge:

I used Leigh's image Sunbonnet Bonnie, which can be found at the store here.  Green is one of my very favorite colors, so I had a lot of fun with this challenge.  Orange is NOT one of my favorite colors.  In fact, I very rarely use it.  However, I had these fun little orange flowers I really wanted to use....and I'm pretty happy with the result.  I decided I like how the colors went together.  =D  Now most of you know me pretty well so you know the image was colored with Copics, and the bow was covered with Stickles.  I just have SUCH a hard time finishing without my Stickles. LOL

So Much to Do...

Hey y'all!!  Well, it's 20 hours before the Anita challenge closes for the week....and I'm done with my entry!  I know, it's shocking.  If I keep going like this, I might finish my entries even a few DAYS before the challenge ends.  LOL

Ok, so this week was a color challenge.  The colors were: Teal Blue, Smoky Plum, Purple, Sage Green.

Pretty, huh?  I had fun with this challenge.  I think my colors are a little bit more vivid than planned, but hopefully that's ok.  Here's my entry:

I just love this Anita stamp, Tallulah.  I think she was one of the very first I bought, and I've been very happy with her.  She's just so sassy! I had to give her a sassy little sentiment.  I've been hearing a lot about Kentucky Derby parties going on this weekend...and that always brings to mind big hats, snooty attitudes and mint juleps.  (Kind of like the polo scene in Pretty Woman, you know?)  Anyway, I think Tallulah would fit right into that scene....then knock it on its ear.  LOL!  

 I was kind of trying to bring out the image of a sunny day (since most of these big hat parties take place outside).  I imagine Tallulah and the purple background as the center of the sun (because the world DOES revolve around her, you know).  I used a Sizzix sun ray embossing folder, then used jewels on the rays of the sun to give them a little fire.

A Freaker's Free-for-All

That's just fun to say.  "Freaker's Free-for-All"  Try it! Anyway, that's the theme of this week's Haunted Design House Macabre Monday challenge. I originally had a card all planned out...I had the images bought, the paper and layout in my mind...  Then everything changed.  

A few weeks ago we had a bonfire at a friend's house.  One of the things we decided to burn was a giant cardboard tube/can.  The can was making some cool designs in the flames, so my friend Kellee and I decided to take some pictures with our phones.  Some of the pictures turned out awesome...sparks flying, flames leaping.  On Friday, Kellee showed me one of the pictures from her phone...and it freaked me out.  I decided this picture MUST be the focus of my project.

I call this "Always Watching". Do you see the face?  To me it looks like a child....and there are some very specific reasons that ghost children  kind of freak me out right now, but I'm not going to get into that.  It's just enough to say....it's creepy for me.  Here's the original picture.

Happy Mother's Day!

I just want to take this time to wish everyone a happy Mother's Day!  

I'm really close to my mom...she's one of my best friends.  Whenever I need her, she is there.  She is beautiful, talented, smart, funny...and she totally gets my sense of humor.  (She might be the ONLY one. LOL)  Since this is really the first Mother's Day card I've made her (except maybe when I was a kid)  I wanted to make sure it was really special.  When Tiddly Inks released this digi stamp, Sisters, I immediately thought of my mom...especially since the two of us look very much alike.  I knew right away that this was the stamp I wanted to use for her card.

This is my first easel card, so I knew it was something she had never seen from me.  She liked the card very much, so that makes me happy.  I like to remind her how special she is whenever I can.  I love you, mom!

Mother's Day #2

See!  I told you I'd be back soon!  =D

This is the card I created for my Grandmother for Mother's Day.  My family is very close, and I lived with my grandparents for a while growing up, so I wanted to make sure she received something extra special.  Sunflowers are her favorite, so when I saw this sunflower digi by Happileigh Scrappin' I just knew it would be perfect.

I printed three of the sunflowers and colored them and the sign using colored pencils and Gamsol.  (I'm getting more and more comfortable with that stuff.  I love the soft look it gives!)  Papers are from Ciao Bella and my scrap stash.  Even though the dps are lightly designed (sort of hard to tell in the picture; they have kind of a watermark design) I thought they were too plain....so I took my light green Souffle Pen and drew some dots, lines and squiggles.  I'm kind of diggin' the way it turned out (luckily because I SO did not want to have to cut those sunflowers out again).  Added Stickles (are you surprised??) to a few petals and the middle of the sunflowers, added some other flowers and a few sunflower seed stickers, and voila!

Mother's Day #1

I decided to get moving on my Mother's Day Cards....especially since I had to mail them today!  So late last night I finished this card for Wy's grandma.

The two images are from Happileigh Scrappin' and were colored with Copics.  The cloud background I can't really remember where it's from (Jilly Bean?) and the clouds were outlined with a  light blue Spica glitter marker.  The ribbon I received with an order from Anita Be Stampin'.  (Thanks, Anita!)  Butterflies have Stickles applied to the wings. (You know I just can't finish a card without adding Stickles SOMEWHERE! LOL)

I finished this card last night but was too tired to upload it, so there you go!  =D   I think Grandma will like it....I hope so!  I usually do cardinals (her favorite bird) for her but wanted something different this time.

It's Monday evening, and you know what that means....another Anita challenge that I'm running behind on!  LOL  I always seem to barely get these cards done in time, even though they are one of my favorite challenges.  How does that happen??

Anyway!  This week was a sketch challenge, and let me tell you...it's AWESOME!  In fact, I think it might be my favorite Anita sketch yet.  Here it is:

Isn't that pretty??  I really like it!  So, here's my card:

The stamp is (of course) from Anita...the fairies, my favorite release!  =D  The background paper is a pale purple, and a pale aqua (the lighting on my camera kind of screwed up the colors a bit).  She was colored with Copics (her lips ARE colored, I promise!  Her make-up is the same color as the aqua in her outfit.) and Stickles were added to the wings.  Large purple flower is from Archivers, butterflies are from Recollections.

Happi Monday, everyone!  It's time for another challenge over at  Happileigh Scrappin'!  This week was Happi Sister Chris's turn, and the theme is Honor Your Mom.  Since Mother's Day is coming up fast, it's a great time to create a card for that special lady.  Here's the card I made:

Now, since my mother is an avid follower of my blog (hi mom!) I can't actually give this to her, even though she is the inspiration for the card.  She really is the best mom, and roses are her favorite flower as well as being part of her name, but I want to make sure that any card I give her will actually be a surprise.  So I will probably send this to my MIL, who also has "rose" in her name.

I created my card using Leigh's Tea Cup Stack, which can be found at her store here. The image was colored using Copic markers, then Stickles were added at the edge of the doilies. The patterned background is from DCWV's Once Upon a Time mat stack.  The sentiment, which is a touch hard to read due to the flash, says "World's Best Mom" and is from Punch Studio.

Dum Dum de Dum, Dum Dum de Dum...

Ok, so if you couldn't tell, that was the wedding song.  LOL  Guess what THIS post is about?  That's right....a WEDDING CARD!  Yay!  =D

The image is from Guylou's Inimitability, colored using Copics, Spica markers, and (of course) Stickles.  The frame is from Melody Ross and was colored using pewter Crackle Paint.  The sentiment (which is a bit hard to read since the silver caught my camera flash) says "The Wedding" and is from K & Co., outlined with silver Stickles.  Flowers I am assuming are from Sakura since they make Souffle pens and these silver outline stickers came in a pack with a couple of pens.  I used the souffle pens to color in between the silver outline. Daisy border punch is from Recollections.
